Rowan County Strengthens Nonprofit Leadership

Rowan County is investing in nonprofit leadership thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Salisbury-Rowan Community Foundation (through the Foundation for the Carolinas) and the Rowan County United Way. This partnership exemplifies what’s possible when philanthropic leaders unite to build the capacity and sustainability of our region’s nonprofit organizations.

PMA's Patton McDowell facilitated a workshop titled Strategic Planning for Nonprofits: Five Keys to Unlocking Excellence. Participants walked away with practical tools and a renewed sense of purpose, inspired to lead more strategically - regardless of whether a formal strategic plan is in place.

“You don’t have to wait for a strategic planning process to lead strategically,” said McDowell. “The most effective leaders are already thinking long-term, building smart partnerships, and taking action.”

The Five Keys to Nonprofit Excellence is a framework used in PMA’s strategic planning and leadership development work with hundreds of nonprofit leaders across the country:
